5 Tips to get better at CS:GO
Ever wondered what it takes to become an amazing Counter Strike: Global Offensive player? It usually takes plenty of training, dedication and the right equipment to drastically improve your skills as a player.
- Get the right gear
Having the right mouse, keyboard, headphones and shortcut set up can be the difference between victory and defeat. Many competitive players will have very highly sensitive setups. You will need as much real time response as you can possibly get. Every millisecond when turning and shooting can greatly improve your performance. High performance gear can be very expensive, but it’s worth it in the long run. Buy the best mouse and keyboard you can afford. Having a good headset is low priority until you get to a serious stage in your gaming career.
- Regular Training
Talent will only get you so far when it comes to CS:GO. Teams and individuals will put in at least 8 hours a day of practice. Many top level players and coaches consider training to be the most important part of professional gaming. The more hours you put in the better you will eventually become. If you want to get good you will have to consider how much free time you have to dedicate yourself to a training schedule.
- Choose a good practice server
Many teams will have a dedicated Counter Strike server that they practice on. Servers in the lobby can usually be bugged or a lot slower than a dedicated server so it’s worth investing in a better server. A dedicated server can allocate more CPU for higher clock speeds and also be upgraded to 128 tick. There are a lot of hosting companies that offer practice servers but you will need to choose the right one to match your training needs.
- Find a team
Find a group of players that match your current level. Your goal is to try and become the best player on that team. Challenge yourself to be the top scorer on each round and improve as much as possible as a team player. Choosing a team that is correctly matched with your skill level will give you a better chance to gain experience and skills. If you join a team that’s too good you will be the weakest player and be outshined by the higher skilled players.
- Learn from other players
Learning from others is a great way to advance your own skills. Watch plenty of playbacks and view the match as a spectator. You can often pick up tips and skills from watching better players on twitch and youtube. If you have a favorite CS:GO player, try and reach out to them for advice and tips. Many top players often have coaches or help from other experienced players.
Summary
Out of all the tips, training on a daily basis is probably the most important. The more hours you are willing to put in the more experience you will gain. If you are serious about becoming an amazing Counter Strike: Global Offensive player and taking your skill to the next level you will need to practice. As you progress remember to continually push yourself to train against harder competitors and play with better teammates to push yourself to improve.
