Fortnite reaches huge player milestone
Fortnite has been doing very well
Before Player Unknowns Battlegrounds was released the battle royal genre bearly existed. When PUBG came out the battle royal genre blew up and every developer wanted to jump on the hype train. For example, Rockstar released a battle royal mini-game for Grand Theft Auto Online and Ark Survival Evolved got a battle royal mini-game too. Epic games was one of the companies too. They jumped onto the hype train with Fortnite. When Fortnite launched it went through a lot of controversy with Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds when Bluehole threatened to sue Fortnite’s developer’s Epic games. The threats didn’t do anything bad to Epic games they actually helped them. All of this fighting made Fortnite very popular and the fact that it was a free game and the fact that it’s available on PC, Xbox One, and PS 4 gave it a huge advantage over PUBG. A month ago we heard that Fortnite has passed 811k Concurrent players. That is not even close to PUBG’s peak concurrent players and sales but it is still very good.
Eurogamer reported that Fortnite passed 40 million players and it got a peak of two million concurrent players a few weeks ago. These numbers are numbers that most devs can only dream of. If Fortnite wasn’t free to play and available on the PC, Xbox One, and PS 4 it probably wouldn’t have reached this number. Fortnite’s lead system designer Eric Williamson told Eurogamer, “To put it in context, some of the folk around the office are saying hey, we could be the biggest Battle Royale game in the western world, which is crazy. Some people are saying we could be the biggest and best-played game [full stop] in the western world.” A few weeks ago we heard about a Fortnite 2.0 map. The map 2.0 will add many things to Fortnite’s map. One of the new things that is going to be added is a big city with tall buildings with many stories. One of the other new features is a mine.
