EA is returning Battlefront 2’s microtransactions

Star Wars Battlefront 2′s launch made gamers very disappointed. Most gamers don’t like microtransactions and pay to win but Battlefront 2 has both of those things in it. The fact that Star Wars Battlefront 2 was priced at $59.99 but it still had microtransactions it made gamers very angry so EA faced a lot of backlash. After a lot of struggle and hate, EA removed microtransactions and set microtransactions will return soon but we didn’t hear anything for a long time but now we have heard that Battlefront 2’s microtransactions will come back in a few months. 

EA confirmed to WSJ’s Sarah E. Needleman that Star Wars Battlefront 2’s microtransactions are coming back “in the next few months. Going forward, we believe that live services that include optional digital monetization, when done right, provide a very important element of choice that can extend and enhance the experience in our games. We’re committed to continually working with our players to deliver the right experience in each of our games and live services.” EA also confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront 2 hasn’t been selling as well as planned. According to the Washington Post EA told them that Star Wars Battlefront 2 sold only 9 million units instead of the expected 10 million and EA says these sales numbers were caused by the pay to win controversy.

When Star Wars Battlefront 2’s beta was released, and players were playing it they realized that the game has a pay to win system in it. A Reddit user did some math and figured out that it will take an average Star Wars Battlefront 2 player 40 hours to unlock heroes like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker or they could pay real money to buy these characters in a few seconds. After all of this backlash EA cut Battlefront 2 hero costs by 75%, but gamers were still mad. EA made many other changes to Battlefront 2, but gamers were still mad so they removed all microtransactions and said that they would return. Right now you can purchase Battlefront 2 for the Xbox One, PC, and PS 4 for $59.99.
