AMD To Reveal Ryzen Threadripper 2990X in Event Partnership With Ferrari In July 2018
AMD is yet to reveal its 2nd-gen Ryzen Threadripper 2990X and it is expected to be revealed later this month as AMD intends to host the reveal event for 2nd-gen Threadripper with Ferrari & it will be hosting the event at Maranello in Northern Italy. According to John Taylor, chief marketing officer for AMD:
The AMD passion for high-performance computing products perfectly matches with Scuderia Ferrari’s dedication to high performance racing leadership. Scuderia Ferrari is a world class innovator and brand. We are excited to partner with them in linking our high performance brands to accelerate the strong momentum around our products.
While AMD is yet to officially announce the specs for Threadripper 2990X but thanks to multiple leaks, the specs for the upcoming 2nd-gen Threadripper has been revealed.
The Monster has 32 Cores, AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990X CPU 32C/64T
There’s a European retailer that has listed it (Threadripper 2990X) early for 1509 EUR, which is around $1750 USD.
AMD could charge $3000 for the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X and it would still be an amazing price. AMD would absolutely be challenging Intel with a $1750 price on its new 32C/64T processor. Intel doesn’t have anything close to it apart from the Xeon Platinum 8180 Processor which is a 28C/56T part that costs over $10,000. Also, forget throwing that into your older-gen motherboard and it working, which the Threadripper 2990X will do just that – they will work in current-gen X299 motherboards after a new BIOS flash.
The Gen 2 Threadrippers — the 24C/48T 2970X and the 32C/64T 2990X are based on the Zen+ architecture similar to their desktop Ryzen brethren and thus bring with them all the goodness of the new Optimization architecture including XFR2, Precision Boost 2, and AMD SenseMI technologies. We will have to play the waiting game till AMD officially announces pricing and availability information.
