This everything you should know about We Happy Few

We Happy Few is a long-anticipated horror, survival, and adventure game made by Compulsion Games. The game is set in an alternate reality world in which Germany bested Britain in World War 2.

The Setting:

We Happy Few is set in an alternate reality island called Wellington Wells somewhere around England. The game is set in the 1960s but unlike our world, the United States never fought in WW2 and Germany was able to beat the British. Thank’s to the war, most of Britain turns into ruins but Wellington Wells surrendered to Germany instead of fighting them. The people at Wellington Wells were able to endure Germany’s occupation (not the Nazis).

For an unknown reason, Germany left Wellington Well forever. That day came to be known as the victory to the people of Wellington Well. Unfortunatly, no one knows why and how Germany left but they are still happy as the Germans have left. The population of the island wanted to keep the happiness so they started wearing simly maks and took drugs that keep everyone happy but it causes memory loss.

The Willies and the Wellettes, thrive on the drug. Everyone on the island takes this drug so if you don’t take it, you will be labeled as a Downer. The Downers get hunted and get driven out of their homes

The Characters:

When you start playing the game, you imidietly start playing as Arthur a resident of Wellington Wells. Arthur is an editor at the Department of Printing, Recycling. An article comes across his desk for him to choose if it should be censored or not. The article is different from the usual as it features him and his brother as little kids. Because of that, Arthur stops taking his daily dose of this drug which causes him to become a Downer.

After playing as Arthur, the player starts controlling Sally, a Wellington Wells socialite. She is a very famous person in the society but she has a dark, hidden secret that she has to protect or face painful punishments. An addict breaks into her room, threatening to expose her secret. She has to deal with the addict and keep her place in society to survive.

The third and last playable character is Ollie who lives in the ruins of a train station. Ollie and his imaginary friend Margarette dig into his personal past to see if he caused a disturbing secret that he found at Wellington Wells’ Victory Memorial Camp. Ollie has lost his memory thanks to the drug so he doesn’t know if he was responsible for the act. Although Ollie is doing this for himself, he might be the only person that can expose the crumbling society of Wellington Wells.

Will it be a Short Survival Game?

The main game mode will not be a short survival with a lot of replayability. At first, it was planned for there to be a one-hour survival game mode but after the early access, the developers shifted away from that and changed We Happe Few into a more narrative-oriented game. The game is going to be 20 hours long but it wouldn’t lose the replayability aspect either. There will be a sandbox mode that focuses on the survival aspect of the game instead of the story. Gamers will get the best of both worlds, a narrative-oriented mode more for fans of single-player games with a narrative, and a sandbox mode for fans that want to play a Survival game. Unfortunatly, the sandbox mode will not be available at launch, instead coming in a future update.
