AMD 7nm GPU/CPU Can Capture a lot of the Laptop and Desktop Gaming Market from Nvidia & Intel

AMD zen 2018 vs intel and nvidia graphics and cpu
AMD VS Nvidia
Nvidia’s latest GPU series RTX hasn’t been doing that well and scored disappointing benchmarks comparing the last AMD and Nvidia GPUs. The high-end RTX GPUs the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 TI, don’t perform as well as they are expected by their price. They cost a lot more about $150 to $400 than the cards from the older generations, especially the RTX 2080 that is performing as fast as the Vega 64 LC based on recent benchmarks.
The RTX 2080 costs around a hundred Dollars more then the GTX 1080 TI, but performs a just little better. Even the lower-end RTX GPUs, have been pretty disappointing as the RTX 2070 runs around 6 FPS better than the GTX 1080 but it costs at least $100 more. AMD’s next-gen 7nm GPUs can change the gaming market forever, capturing most of the gaming market from Nvidia. The expensive GPUs from Nvidia with around 15% upgrades are the reason that old GPUs are still selling very well. And if AMD comes up with a new decent high-end GPU it can extend its market very fast.
How Will AMD Navi Capture the Laptop Gaming GPU Market From Nvidia?
Right now, if you want to run triple-A games at 1080p, ultra 60 FPS, you will have to buy a laptop that is very large & heavy with decent cooling. Thanks to AMD Navi’s 7nm for mobile gaming, laptop manufactures can give it less power but get more performance out of it. AMD right now is leading the whole 7nm technology.
AMD’s president and CEO, Gary Shapiro said, “In 2019, AMD will catapult computing, gaming, and visualization technologies forward with the world’s first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs, providing the power required to reach technology’s next horizon. During her CES keynote, Dr. Su and guests will provide a view into the diverse applications for new computing technologies ranging from solving some of the world’s toughest challenges to the future of gaming, entertainment and virtual reality with the potential to redefine modern life.”
Thanks to AMD Navi, gamers might be able to run triple-A games at 1080p, high-ultra, around 60 FPS on a slim and light gaming laptop. Of course, AMD might not release Navi for gaming laptops, so this is just a theory for now but based on history rx580 came to laptops so maybe the NAVI / NAVI APUs also come to laptops.
How Will AMD Navi Capture the Desktop GPU Market From Nvidia
Nvidia RTX hasn’t been doing very well. In some benchmarks released recently the RTX 2080 performs around 6 FPS better than the GTX 1080 TI, but you will have to spend around $800 to get your self an RTX 2080. Although a brand new GTX 1080TI will cost you a little less than $800, on eBay you can find a used RTX 2080 for as low as $640. If AMD plays their cards right, they can use their next 7nm gen gpu to finally pull ahead of Nvidia.
AMD VS INTEL
AMD, leading the 7nm technology in CPUs
AMD has been all over the news with its 7nm technology coming in 2019. But Intel not only is being left behind in terms of technology, it is being left behind in its current technologies and suffering the huge CPU shortage. The intel CPU shortage is making AMD sell a lot more CPUs and become the likely option for close future laptops and pcs. The 10nm process was supposed to be ready for mass production in 2015. Instead, mass production of chips on 10nm will not start until next year. Intel’s Cannon Lake microarchitecture was supposed to arrive right after Skylake. However, it only started trickling into the market with a single Core i3 SKU that has lower than normal clock speeds. In the mean time, Intel continues to develop 14nm chips, and the company has even gone back in time to develop 22nm chipsets again.
Speaking in Barcelona at the Canalys Channels Forum, HP CEO Dion Weisler said it is “unfortunate” when any PC component is in short supply, such as the ongoing DRAM shortage which has no end in sight. Weisler said the shortage of Intel CPUs is likely to affect smaller rather than larger partners, and suggested AMD as an alternative, saying:
AMD has got a fantastic portfolio. They are really strong now.
Lenovo COO Gianfranco Lanci expressed similar opinions and agreed with the 6 month timeframe for the shortage. He specified that the lack of purchasing power on the part of smaller PC vendors would be the most limiting factor for acquiring Intel CPUs as they are in such high demand and short supply. The Lenovo executive echoed Dion Weisler, saying:
I agree that AMD is going to be a good alternative in terms of performance, it’s a good alternative in terms of supply.
