PC Gaming is Basically Disc-Less, so Why Can’t Console Do it? (Xbox One S Disc-Less, PS 5)

Most PC Gamers Don’t Use Discs

Microsoft

If you are a PC gamer, you probably know that basically, all PC games have gon disc-less but,  consoles are still using discs. If you follow the news you have probably heard about a disc-less Xbox One S console that is supposedly going to be released soon but, a lot of console gamers argue that people with low internet speeds will have a hard time downloading games as the latest games are like a 100GB and with a 10mbs WIFI, the download will take way too long.

Xbox One S Going Disc-Less

According to Windows Central, Microsoft is going to release the disc-less version of the Xbox One S in May 2019 and pre-orders are supposedly going to start mid-April which means that the Xbox One S disc-less edition is about 3 weeks away from being revealed.

This isn’t the first time that we have heard about an all-digital Xbox console. A while back rumors came out about a streaming Xbox console code named, Scarlett Cloud. Scarlett Cloud isn’t going to feature powerful specs since it is a streaming console as all you need is fast wifi. A disc-less future is definitely happening but, it’s not very clear if it’ll happen in 2019 or in a year or two.

PC Gaming Already Disc-Less

Right now, all modern PC games are disc-less. Right now, if you go to a local retailer and buy a triple-A game that came out after 2018, you’ll most likely get a game key inside a game case. Basically, you have to go over to the game site, put in the key, and download your game as though you bought it through Steam. PC gaming has been disc-less for a long time and gamers don’t have a lot of issues with this change. Of course, it does take a bit more time but, this change is simply more convenient as you don’t have to drive to the store, get the game, put it in your console, and download it. All you have to do is leave it to download overnight and play it in the morning.
