Nintendo’s Switch Mini Launch Is Very Close, Here Is Why

Wccftech has reported that “The Nintendo (TYO:7974) Switch Mini has yet to be officially announced, but reports from Taiwan’s supply chain say that Nintendo is gearing up for production anyway sourcing parts from Taiwan.”

“Nintendo has exceeded our expectations in the past two months. Demand is better than we thought,” Macronix chairman Miin Wu told the Taipei Times. “That is very unusual, as the first and second quarters are usually slow seasons.”

A recent report from The Wall Street Journal states that Nintendo intends to move assembly of the console from China to South East Asia. While the report didn’t specify which country assembly would be moved to, Vietnam is likely high on the list considering Foxconn’s large presence in-country.

The Spanish arm of gaming retail specialist GAME has added a whole bunch of Switch Mini accessories to its website, adding more weight to the rumours of a cut-price, revised edition of the system. The listings lack images at present, but some of the items – such as the TPU skin and travel case – are similar to the listings published by Chinese accessory maker HonSon last week.

We’ve spoken to a HonSon representative about the product listings in question, and have been told that the company has based these products on ‘secret’ information and that it is waiting for Nintendo to officially confirm the system before putting these items into production; HonSon will then ‘adjust the model to ensure it can perfectly suit the console.’ The representative also confirmed that, based on the information it has received, the Switch Mini is (as the name suggests) ‘a little smaller’ than the current version.

Nintendo has apparently started the production

Although E3 appeared to have been the perfect time for Nintendo to announce the new consoles, the WSJ’s sources seem to suggest that the Kyoto-based company is ready to launch the reinvigorated Switch. According to supply-chain sources for the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Nintendo will follow Foxconn Technology (who make Apple’s iPhone) in moving production from China, and Sharp who plan to move the manufacture of their personal computers to either Taiwan or Vietnam. The same sources have suggested that Nintendo has already commenced production of the updated Switch models in the new location.
