History of Razer

The Razer Phone 2, Next gen Smartphone By Razer, September 2018 | Rumored
We can all find a Razer gaming headset, keyboards, mice and a variety of other gaming products at local gaming or computer stores. Razer itself is one of the most popular brands in the gaming world, and it continues to shine when it comes to the value that it delivers and the creativity of the business.
Initially, the Razer brand started as a subsidiary of Karna LLC in 1998. The idea at that time was to create and promote high end computer mice. However, Karna was closed in 2000. The Razer brand name was then in hiatus for around 5 years. In 2005 the current iteration of Razer was founded by Min Liang Tan, which was a graduated from Singapore. He worked closely with Robert Krakoff after they acquired the rights for the Razer brand.
The two started working together back in the 90s when Tan was an outside consultant. Tan was offering informal, yet vital information and content at that time, and he knew that the insight from a gamer would bring in better potential.
Razer launches the Tarantula in 2007 and it’s one of the most popular mice with new technologies like anti ghosting and macro functionality. Their innovative approach really stood out, with these technologies becoming clear winners and a standard for the gaming world. They even got to work with Microsoft to create hardware based on their technology. The product was named Microsoft Habu, the first Microsoft gaming mouse at that time.
The company also launched their first Razer gaming headset named Baracuda and they decided to give back to the community in the form of sponsorship from pro gamers. Within the next few years, they started working very hard on ergonomic studies. It was at that time when Razer launched their own DeathAdder mouse, which became one of the top mice in the world even for this day, which is very exciting.
Since then, Razer continued to expand and produce new products for their audience. In 2011 they launched the Switchblade, which was a handheld gaming device prototype. In 2013 the company presented Razer Edge, which was a gaming tablet computer.
During the same year they also launched their own gaming laptop line named Razer Blade which continues up to this day. They focused on making the laptop thin and very powerful, while also adding a lot of RGB.
In 2015 the company acquired the software division of Ouya and they also acquired THX from Creative Technology in 2017. So yes, they did expand quite a lot and they bought a variety of companies. And they still pursued innovation by creating an e-wallet service named Razer Pay available in Malaysia and they also created their own smartphone.
Razer is one of the companies that continues to grow and expand while also covering a wide range of products. From the Razer gaming headset to a variety of other products, the main focus has always been on value, quality and delivering customers a great user experience. Even their motto, “by gamers, for gamers”, clearly shows that the company is fully focused on helping gamers further expand their experience and making it as rewarding as possible.
