Will AMD and NVIDIA GPU Prices Finally Start Coming Down?

GPU Prices seem to have started coming Down

We have started hearing rumors about AMD’s next-gen GPUs which are supposedly going to offer a modest improvement over their current-gen GPUs and finally give AMD an edge over their competitor, NVIDIA. Although this may sound nice as you will get better performance for the same price, it doesn’t really make any gamer happy right now because they likely would not even be able to get a chance of purchasing the new GPU without spending twice the MSRP! Well, I have good news for gamers that are in the market for a new GPU, it seems like GPU prices have finally started to come down!

Data Shows Decrease in GPU Prices

Right now it doesn’t really matter if a new GPU is released because no matter how good of a deal the next-generation of GPUs are, it is basically impossible to get your hands on one without spending more than double the MSRP! It seems like the GPU shortage has started to get better in recent times as cryptocurrency mining has started to get less popular and the latest figures from Tom’s Hardware indicate that GPU prices may actually start to come down to normal.

Reportedly the NVIDIA RTX line up has seen an average price drop of about 9%. The RTX 3080’s price fell by 11.5%, the RTX 3070 saw a price drop of 8.5%, and the 3060 TI dropped by 12.6% in the first half of June when compared to the previous month. AMD GPUs have fallen in price by about an average of 6.5% as well.  The AMD RX 6800 XT fell by 6%, the RX 6800 by 8.1%, and the RX 6700 by 5.6%. This is all really good news for PC gamers because it means that by the time that next-gen GPUs start coming out, the GPU prices will hopefully be close or at their normal amount. As the world begins to open up more and COVID restrictions are lifted, GPU prices have a high chance of returning to the normal amount.

New Rumors about Next-Gen AMD Navi GPUs 

Next-Gen AMD Radeon GPUs may not be as much of a improvement on current generation of GPUs as previously rumored. We still have to see what NVIDIA has in stock for next-gen but Nvidia is likely going to provide a generic 10-15% performance improvement over the previous generation. AMD will probably provide a performance gain around this figure as well since there has not ben much hype about next-gen hardware.

The Editor-In-Chief at TechPowerUp recently got confirmation from AMD themselves that the next-generation of Navi 23 GPUs will have 64 ROPs. Furthermore, Navi 23 is also supposedly going to feature 32 Ray Tracing Cores. This means that Navi 23 is going to feature the same number of ROPs and Ray Tracing Cores as the previous-gen Navi 22 GPU.

Reportedly the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are both utilizing some next-gen hardware that is not yet available to PC gamers which would explain their amazing performance when compared to current generation computers. The PS 5 and Xbox Series X are able to perform far better then any other PC at a fraction of the cost as they can output games at 4k with playable framerates for about $500 where as a PC would cost much more if it can perform that well.
