There is somthing here not matching with what we knew before. We knew that the next big thing for NVIDIA was going to be the VOLTA that was used in V100 Tesla from Nvidia. according to the roadmaps from Nvidia and recent releases from Nvidia Volta is the next thing and there has been no mention of an Ampere GPU till now and the road map. Volta has already made an appearance at GTC 2017 earlier this year and is available on the market since September 2017. The Volta GPUs are called the most powerful GPUs ever made by Nvidia and basically made for cloud computing and AI company, Amazon and Baidu are just a few key examples. There are also products with the Tesla based V100 cards by Volta GPUs, Xavier SOC and Drive Pegasus a discrete and SOC based solution all made by Volta GPU architecture.
NVIDIA introduced the new Volta platform v100 when they unveiled recently that the world’s first artificial intelligence computer designed specially to drive fully autonomous robotaxis. NVIDIA DRIVE PX Pegasus is able to deliver over 320 trillion operations per second and it is more than 10x the performance of its predecessor, NVIDIA DRIVE PX 2. Out Of the 225 partners developing on the NVIDIA DRIVE PX platform, more than 25 are developing fully autonomous robotaxis using NVIDIA CUDA GPUs.
“Volta for gaming, we haven’t announced anything. And all I can say is that our pipeline is filled with some exciting new toys for the gamers, and we have some really exciting new technology to offer them in the pipeline. But for the holiday season for the foreseeable future, I think Pascal is just unbeatable. It’s just the best thing out there. And everybody who’s looking forward to playing Call of Duty or Destiny 2, if they don’t already have one, should run out and get themselves a Pascal.” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on Volta generation of graphics.
