AMD 7nm Navi VS Nvidia RTX/GTX | Who Will Top the Competition?

Can AMD Finally top Nvidia?

Right now Nvidia controls most of the PC gaming market thanks to their latest gaming GPU series, RTX. According to the latest rumors, Nvidia is going to announce a lower-end RTX card, the RTX 2060 and the GTX 1160 really soon while AMD is likely going to release their 7nm Navi 10 and Navi 12 GPUs in the coming weeks. Seeing that both companies are going to release their GPUs around the same time, a question has to be asked. Will AMD finally top Nvidia?

AMD Navi Latest Leaks and Rumors

According to a very credible source, AMD is going to release three different AMD Navi series GPUs. First AMD will release Navi 12 and Navi 12 sometime in 2019. Navi 20 will be released sometime in 2020.  The RX 3060 and RX 3070 are going to be based on Navi 122 and  RX 3080 is going to be based on Navi 10. The latest rumors suggest that AMD Navi 12 and Navi 10 are going to target the mid-range and low-end gaming market.

The AMD RX 3060 is rumored to feature 4Gb of GDDR6 RAM and a TDP of 75W which is expected to perform like the RX 580. The RX 370 is going to feature 8gb of GDDR6 VRAM and a TDP of 120w. It’ll perform like Vega 56. RX 3080 is going to feature 8Gb of GDDR6 VRAM and a TDP of 150w. It will perform %15 better than Vega 64. The fact that the most powerful Navi GPU (that is coming out in 2019) the RX 3080 is going to perform 15% better than Vega 64 is a bit disappointing as it means AMD still isn’t going to compete with Nvidia in the high-end gaming market.

RTX 2060/GTX 1160 Latest Leaks and Rumors

According to the latest rumors, Nvidia is going to release their lower-end GPUs in about a month. The Nvidia RTX 2060 is going to be the cheapest GPU that is going to feature ray tracing and it is most likely going to cost around $400. The GTX 1160 will not feature RTX so it would be much cheaper but it will still be able to play triple-A games at 1080p ultra 60 FPS. The GTX 1160 is probably going to cost around the same price as GTX 1060’s launch price.  The GTX 1160 will be based on Turning architecture but it will have the ray tracing cores disabled.

Will AMD Top Nvidia?

Of course, AMD isn’t going to top Nvidia in the high-end gaming market, at least in 2019. If the rumors are true, Navi 10 and Navi 12 will not be able to compete with the high-end RTX GPUS so Nvidia is safe. In the mid-end and low-end gaming market, AMD has a chance to beat Nvidia. If Navi has the right pricing, it will have a big chance to beat Nvidia. AMD Navi has a big advantage over Nvidia. Thanks to its 7nm architecture, Navi will be more power efficient than Nvidia RTX.
