AMD to Capture The Gaming Market from Nvidia Thanks to RTX Series Failure and Next-Gen 7nm AMD Navi GPUs
Things Don’t Look Too Well for Nvidia

Right now, most of the gaming market is controlled by Nvidia as AMD doesn’t have high-end GPUs right now. For a few years, if you wanted to play games at 1080p ultra, you would have to go with Nvidia but that might change in 2019 thanks to AMD Navi and Nvidia RTX’s low and disappointing performance.
Nvidia RTX Isn’t Doing Well
Both the lower-end and higher-end Nvidia GPUs have been disappointing. Nvidia RTX 2070 was recently released and the benchmarks leave something to be desired. In most games, the Nvidia RTX 2070 performs around 7 FPS better than the GTX 1080 at 1440p. With Metro Last Light Redux running at ultra settings 1440p, the GTX 1080 ran the game at 103 FPS and the RTX 2070 runs the game at an average of 112 FPS. Nvidia RTX 2070’s benchmarks don’t seem disappointing until you consider the price. If you get lucky and find an RTX 2070 for only $499, it still doesn’t make it worth it when compared to the GTX 1080. A GTX 1080 would cost you at least $499 but, you can find a used GTX 1080 on eBay for really cheap prices.
The RTX 2070 isn’t as disappointing as the higher-end Nvidia RTX GPUs. In Shadow of the TombRaider, the RTX 2080 ran the game at 47 FPS while the GTX 1080 TI ran it at 43 FPS. In Battlefield 1, the RTX 2080 ran the game at 72 FPS while the GTX 1080 TI ran it at 62 FPS. An RTX 2080 will cost you at least $799 while you can find a GTX 1080 TI for as low as $699. If you want, you can go used and buy it for as low as $600.
AMD Navi to Capture a lot of the Gaming Market from Nvidia
According to Gary Shapiro, AMD Navi is going to catapult gaming forward.
Gary Shapiro said, “In 2019, AMD will catapult computing, gaming, and visualization technologies forward with the world’s first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs, providing the power required to reach technology’s next horizon. During her CES keynote, Dr. Su and guests will provide a view into the diverse applications for new computing technologies ranging from solving some of the world’s toughest challenges to the future of gaming, entertainment and virtual reality with the potential to redefine modern life.”
AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su is going to deliver a keynote at CES 2019.
A 7nm size means that AMD can give the cards less power but, get more performance in return. If AMD plays their cards right, they might be able to actually compete with Nvidia in the high-end gaming market as well.
