Before AMD launched their Ryzen Series CPUs, AMD wasn’t much of a competitor for Intel. Their CPUs were used in low-end systems, and if you wanted to build a mid-end or high-end PC, everyone would’ve suggested an Intel CPU. Thanks to Ryzen, Intel stepped up their game and released their six core CPUs earlier than planned. Now, you might be wondering if AMD is better or Intel for gaming well. AMD Ryzen CPUs feature more cores and do better in multi-core performance, but Intel does better in single core performance.

The simple answer is that Intel is still the viable option for gaming, but the long answer is much more complicated. In all games, the Intel CPU does better then Ryzen. In some games, Intel pulls ahead by 5 to 10 FPS, but in some games, Intel pulls ahead 20 FPS. According to benchmarks done by YouTuber “Hardware Unboxed,” Intel does better overall in games. All of the benchmarks were done with the game running at ultra, 1080p. The system was using the GTX 1080 Ti. You can see the benchmarks below:

As you can see in the benchmarks, for gaming Intel is the viable option in 2018. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Intel is going to be better for the future. See, in the future, games will likely be designed to utilize more than four cores as most games right now, aren’t made to utilize more than four cores. If you buy the AMD CPU. If you only do gaming, you should buy the Intel Core I7-8700K but if you are going to use your PC for other things such as video editing you should go with Ryzen. The Ryzen 7 2700 is better for multitasking.
