ATARIBOX READY FOR PRE-ORDER 14 December 2017, Shipping Spring 2018

ATARIBOX Pre-orders will soon start for the new Atari console on 14 December 2017. Ataribox, will be available at a discount to supporters signed up to receive emails from the official website. That deal is “extremely limited” so if you want it go sign up now.  Now after three months the Ataribox is getting ready to go for sale. I was just a while a go that AMD was named as the chip provider and the campaign started in Indiegogo. AMD is now considered as the main game console CPU and GPU provider. You can see that in all popular game consoles like XBOX, XBOX One X or Ataribox now.

Ataribox specifications

The Ataribox design is inspired by retro atari products like the Atari 2600.The full specifications are not out yet but it is mentioned that the console will bring a “full PC experience” to your TV, and it’ll also offer a media hub experience to give app access to streaming, social, web browsing, music listening and more online. A game streaming service is thought to be included as well. We know now the the Ataribox is made by AMD customized processor with Radeon Graphics chips and is based on Linux OS. Pictures shown HDMI and USB ports, plus an Ethernet port and SD card slot. There is more-than likely Wi-Fi as well.

Ataribox games

Ataribox will launch with support of Atari classic games and “current titles from a range of studios”. Atari said players will be able to access and play games from other platforms as well. “With Ataribox, we wanted to create an open system, a killer product where people can game, stream and browse with as much freedom as possible. Atari games and content will be available as well as games and content from other providers,” said Fred Chesnais, Atari’s chief executive officer.

Ataribox release date, price and pre-order deals

Ataribox was launch through the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform, pre-orders opening on 14 December 2017. Atari is targeting spring 2018 for shipping. It will cost between $249 to $299. There will be a standard Ataribox and special editions.
