Bad Dream Fever is an adventure indie game. A mysterious plague, a blue ink has covered the Earth and killed basically everyone. The world is covered with sadness, suffering, and mysteries. The game features unique graphics and a mysterious story. This short article will hopefully be able to help you make up your mind on whether you should buy the game or not.

Click and Point

Bad Dream Fever uses the click and point mechanic. I’m going to make it easy for you. If you’re not into click and point, this isn’t the game for you. Throughout the story, you’ll quickly figure out that you will have to randomly click on objects in hopes of making something happen. Sometimes, the game gets really boring because it’s not exactly clear what you’re supposed to do.

For example, at the beginning of the game when you leave the hideout, you are told that you have to find a camera. Finding the camera itself isn’t very hard but when you find it, there is blue ink dripping from the top and the camera is behind it. When you try to pick it up, it says that you have to find something to move it over with as you wouldn’t want to touch the blue ink. You have to get lucky to click the piece of wood in the construction site so that you have something to move the camera with.

That is easy enough but, I really got stuck after I picked up the camera. You are told to get back to the hideout but you don’t get any more info. After trying for about 20min, I went to the toy store and started randomly clicking on things until I found the map next to the little kid. When I tried to pick it up, the baby started crying so I wasn’t able to do that. After trying for about another 15 min, I gave up and watched a walkthrough of the game. It turned out that I was supposed to click on the Elephant doll a few times and that pick up the map so the kid doesn’t cry.

In my opinion, this is one of the biggest problems with Bad Dream Fever. You are told to get back to the hideout but you don’t get anything else. It gets frustrating when you have to click random things for 20 min to trigger something and start the next objective. This problem disrupts the flow of the story making the game a bit less interesting.

Visuals

Bad Dream Fever features unique and interesting visuals. The game looks like it was drawn by a very talented artist. The world is filled with detailed objects and it looks amazing. There is an effect applied that makes the game look depressing. Everything is brown and dark so the world looks really creepy. Since nothing has a color, the blue ink stands out of the rest of the world, giving it a mysterious feeling and making it even scarier. Desert Fox made a good choice going with this art style. This art style works perfectly with the setting and story of the game.

Story and the World

Bad Dream Fever’s story is neither disappointing or outstanding, it’s mediocre. There are some interesting things that happen but is nothing special. The story itself might not be that good but, the world is really interesting. At first, the city seems empty and it looks like there is nothing to do but, when you do a bit of exploration, you find that there is fear and sorrow everywhere. There are many places for the player to explore from parks to schools. Desert Fox did good work on the world. The world is filled with small details and objects. The small and big details combined with the game’s story, makes you keep playing.

Final Thoughts | Should You Get it?

If you think 1.5 to 2 hours of content is worth $10 and you like click and point games, I’d recommend this game to you. It has good visuals, a mediocre story, and a massive and detailed world. Bad Dream Fever also has some horror elements to it but, it’s not that scary. Even if you aren’t into scary games, I’d still recommend Bad Dream Fever to you. Remember if you buy it and don’t like it, you can always return your games on Steam. It wouldn’t hurt to at least try it out.

Right now, you can pick up the game on Steam for your PC and Mac for only $9.99.
