Because of Microsoft, Gamers Didn’t get Cross-Play Last-Gen as the Xbox 360 was Selling so Well

Now that Xbox isn’t Doing so Well, Microsoft wants Cross-Play with PlayStation

Everyone has been hating on Sony because they wouldn’t allow cross-play but, believe it or not, a few years back, Microsoft was the company that didn’t want cross-play with other gaming platforms. Last-gen, the Xbox 360 was doing much better than the Sony PlayStation 3, so Microsoft refused to incorporate cross-play into their games.

Microsoft Refused to Incorporate Cross-Play

About 15 years ago, the Sony PlayStation 3 wasn’t doing that well as the PlayStation 3 was initially priced at $499 while you were able to purchase an Xbox 360 for as low as $299. The high price made gamers flock to the Xbox 360, making Sony’s console lag behind the competition. Just like what Microsoft is doing right now, Sony asked Microsoft to incorporate cross-play into their games and Microsoft refused. See, this problem didn’t get a lot of attention back in the day, so Microsoft easily got away with it. If this issue had gained media attention, right now cross-play would have likely been mainstream.

Why Didn’t Microsoft Incorporate Cross-Play into the Xbox 360?

Well, Microsoft did it for the same reason as Sony did it a few months back. A while ago, Sony said they blocked cross-play because “PlayStation is the best place to play.” Sony’s boss said “On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief.” The real reason Sony blocked cross-play is that they want more people to purchase the PS 4. See, if you have friends on the PlayStation 4 but like the Xbox One better, with cross-play, you can buy an Xbox One, but if cross-play is blocked you will have to buy a PS 4 so you can play with your friends.
