Blink joins Amazon

Amazon just got Blink under its wings. Blink is a young technology startup that is set to make affordable-smart home cameras. We may see in near future some Amazon expanded home ecosystem services and products.  Blink was founded in 2014 by a successful US$1 million crowdfunding campaign. It currently manufactures some kind of weatherproof camera, an indoor camera, video doorbell. They got to the market in 2016 after two years of development and rigorous testing.

The Blink camera system was capable of connecting to Amazon Alexa-enabled devices for voice commands before the acquisition even before this. maybe main reasons for the acquisition. is the already integrated systems in blink. Blink security camera system can interact with SmartThings, Philips Hue, and other smart home products. An official blog post by Blink that revealed the news mentioned that nothing is going to change and they continue to work as they were.

“nothing changes for now. We’ll continue to operate under the Amazon umbrella selling and supporting the same great products you know and love.”

Amazon is now one of the biggest companies and it is expanding itself by entering in different markets, from web services to film studio and being a Netflix rival. Amazon was just 2 month ago working with Intel on a new project called DEEPLENS. DeepLens is first fully programmable camera with advanced deep learning-enabled wireless video camera designed for developers. it is possible that Amazon has got Blink under its umbrella to expand the Deeplens into a consumer product and services. till now deeplens has been R&D, research and experiment and one of the reasons behind buying Blink may relate to deeplens.
