If you are into strategy sim games, you probably know about Stronghold. The Stronghold series is one of the most popular strategies video game series of all time. The series has been taken to Medieval Europe and the middle east. The first game in the series quickly became a critical success and sold millions of units and later games in the series became fan favorites. Fans quickly fell in love with Stronghold Crusaders. As you probably know, Firefly is working on a new Stronghold game and although they haven’t revealed anything specific, we have gotten a few things.

Will it be a Remaster or Crusaders 3?

Lets get this out of the way, Stronghold next is definitely not going to be a remake of previous games in the series or Crusaders 3. According to Firefly’s Q&A videos, Stronghold Next is going to be set in a new setting and it will bring new mechanics to the table. Apparently, diplomacy is going to be an important feature in Stronghold Next’s core mechanic. Firefly has said that there wouldn’t be ships or anything and it wouldn’t be set in the Nepolian era or ancient Egypt. It seems like Stronghold Next is going to be bringing back a lot of fan-favorite mechanics from previous games in the series and new sim mechanics for players to mess around with. Apparently Stronghold Next is going to be set in a completely different setting but it will have the core Stronghold mechanics as well as new mechanics for veterans of the series. 

Will There be a Beta, Is it a PC Exclusive, Release Date?

Unfortunately, Stronghold Next is going to be a PC exclusive. Firefly said that a Linux and Mac version of the game will depend on how well it performs but it will definitely be released after Stronghold Next PC. We don’t have a specific release date but it is pretty far off. Firefly has said numerous times that they are in the early parts of development so its at least a year away from release. There will be a public demo for the game in some countries but Firefly hasn’t talked about a public beta.
