According to YouTuber Paul’s Hardware, the AMD Ryzen 1950X scored 2969 on Cinebench with Intel’s $900 CPU the Core i9-7900X getting 2210. This YouTuber also tried to render a 4K video in Premiere Pro CC and the AMD 1950X did much better the I9-7900X. It took the 1950X 5:15 and the I9-7900X 5:43 to render the same video. 

If the high-end market isn’t for you then you can move down to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X and pick it up for only $387. The closest Intel CPU is the Core i7-8700K. The 1900X features 8 Cores while the I7-8700K has only 6 cores. The 1900X is going to be much better in the long term as more and more games start using more than four cores. Right now you can pick up a 1900X from Amazon for only $387 (original $449). That is a very good price considering that this CPU absolutely destroys all competition.

If you are looking for a workstation Threadripper is the way to go but for gaming, Intel is the best right now. Before AMD released their Ryzen CPUs, CPUs that gamers used for gaming had four cores so developers didn’t need to optimize their games for more cores. The AMD Ryzen 1700X featured 8 cores at a price point that gamers were able to afford so Intel released their answer to AMD’s Ryzen soon after. Because of this titles that are a year or two old generally, perform better on Intel CPUs as one core in Intel’s CPUs perform better than one core in Ryzen. Newer titles use more cores so AMD pulls ahead of Intel.
