One of the most cervical topics in the gaming community is microtransactions. Most gamers hate it because in most games with microtransactions anyone can use real money to get an advantage over other players, well from now on every game made by Take-Two will have micro-transactions. Take-Tow published games such as Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption Right now they are working on Red Dead 2, so Red Dead Redemption 2 will definitely have microtransactions.
In an investor call (reported by gamasutra) Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick said their games wouldn’t always be an online game and it wouldn’t always be virtual currency. According to him, gamers will be able to “engage” with their games after they launch. GTA V Take-Twos most popular game has a lot of microtransactions. Gamers can buy GTA Online money with real money, and then they could buy things such as new weapons, new vehicles, new properties, and more in GTA Online. Unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder for gamers to play games without spending extra money, almost every game that was released in 2017 has microtransactions. In Star Wars Battlefront 2 gamers can buy “loot boxes” with real money. Loot boxes contain character upgrades, new weapons, and more. In Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, gamers can purchase crates with real money, but the crates contain cosmetic items.
Developers are making a lot of money through Microtransactions. In 2016 Activision made $6.61 billion and $3.6 billion came from microtransactions alone. Each year more people are buying microtransactions. Rockstar made $500M in microtransactions from GTA Online alone. You can see why companies add microtransactions to their games. The gaming community says they hate microtransactions, but they are still buying them.
