Intel 10nm Sunny Cove Next-Gen CPU Latest Info (Release Date, Benchmarks, iGPU)

Sunny Cove Latest Info

Intel

If you are into tech you have probably heard about Intel’s 10nm next-gen Cannon Lake CPUs. A while back rumors were going around claiming that Intel is having a lot of issues with Cannon Lake and that they might even cancel it altogether but, Intel quickly put an end to these rumors. Well, now it seems like Intel is working on a new 10nm CPU architecture and no one really knows what happened to Cannon Lake.

Intel’s Architecture Cores Group, Ronak Singhal said Intel is going to use three approaches to boost Sunny Cove’s performance. First, Sunny Cove cores are going to find more opportunities for correspondence by increasing the cache sizes and Sunny Cove is going to perform more operations in parallel. According to Intel, Sunny Cove also features new instructions that’ll increase the speeds of cryptography and AI.

Sunny Cove 7-Zip Performance

In a demo, Intel showed off a Sunny Cove demo in which the CPU was performing a 7-Zip encode using AES-256. According to Intel’s official benchmarks, Sunny Cove ran up to 75 percent faster than an equivalent Coffee Lake CPU but, the benchmark ran on a version of 7-zip that was changed to use Sunny Cove’s instructions.

Sunny Cove iGPU

Intel is also going to include vastly improved Gen. 11 iGPUs in Sunny Cove which is Intel’s first iGPU that hits 1 teraflop of performance. Let’s hope that Sunny Cove’s iGPUs are at least able to outperform AMD’s Vega 8 and Vega 10 with the Vega 10 approaching 1.7 teraflops of performance. Intel claims that much of the performance increase is going to take place because of doubling the execution units in this iGPUs from 24 EUs in Gen. 9 to 64 EUs in Gen. 11. This means that even if you are running your system on Sunny Cove’s iGPU, you might actually be able to play some light games.

Release Date

Although Intel hasn’t given us an official release date, it is believed that Sunny Cove is going to be released early 2020. We know that is it definitely coming out in 2020 thanks to Intel’s roadmap but, the “early” 2020 release date is just speculation right now.
