New AMD APUs to Have a Hard Time Beating Intel in the Laptop Market | 10nm Sunny Cove Benchmarks Leaked

Intel Core i7-1065G7 Benchmarks Leaked

Right now Intel controls the majority of the portable PC market although AMD’s APUs feature GPUs that totally obliterate Intel’s. According to the latest rumors, AMD is going to release a new generation of APUs based on the 12nm Zen+ architecture and we have gotten our hands on the benchmarks but, Intel’s next-gen Sunny Cove APUs are supposedly going to blow away AMD’s APUs.

Intel Sunny Cove vs AMD Ryzen 5 3500U

Thanks to NotebookCheck we have gotten our hands on Geekbench scores for the Intel Core i7-1065G7, a laptop CPU based on Intel’s next-gen 10nm Sunny Cove architecture. As you can see below, this CPU features a low frequency but, the Cor i701065G7 was able to score 5,234 points in the single-core portion of the benchmark while the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U only scores 1,818 although it’s running at 2.1 GHz. The Intel CPU pulls ahead in the multi-core portion of the test as well which means that AMD will have a hard time competing with Intel.

Next-Gen AMD APUs vs Intel Sunny Cove APUs

According to rumors, Intel’s next-gen APUs are going to feature iGPUs that are able to rival AMD’s Vega and Navi iGPUs which means that AMD will lose the lead in iGPUs and, we know that the new APUs are going to feature CPUs with higher clock speeds which means that Intel will most likely take the lead in the portable market. Of course, Intel’s Sunny Cove APUs are quite a bit far from release which means that AMD will have some time to release new 7nm APUs.

This is certainly bad news for AMD as they haven’t exactly had a grasp on the portable market for a long time. If you head over to Amazon, you’ll notice that almost all laptops which cost over $400 use an Intel CPU although AMD Ryzen features far superior iGPUs. Intel Sunny Cove is most likely quite a bit away from release which means that AMD will have a bit of time to develop their own 7nm APUs to compete with Intel Sunny Cove.
