New AMD ‘Fenghuang APU’ The Ryzen APU For Desktop

Wccftech recently reported that some new interesting information were found on SisoftSandra database, a not seen AMD APU that has the branding of AMD’s next gen avian roadmap. Codenamed of the APU is ‘Fenghuang’ and also this APU has a very large number of CUs (28 to be exact) with  1792 SPs, as they reported it has been one of the largest APUs ever made. This appears to be the APU for Desktop by AMD that has been being worked on for a long time.  The Avian is based  on the 14nm process and carries on into the 7nm node as well.  The AMD Fenghuang as the primary platform CPU is from Ryzen family. maybe this is from the 8-core Zeppelin die based APU, something we have heard about before.

SP count is 1792, maybe the reason why it is being called the largest APU. “AMD Fenghuang” platform name can be seen in the list. The core clocks of the CPU side of things are mentioned to be 2.4 GHz, with turbo 3 GHz. The APU has a 16 kB cache and 2GB of memory (Probably HBM or HBM2). The clock speed of the GPU is listed 555 MHz, that is low and may make this a prototype or test model cause they usually go with 700 MHz at the very least. Some have suggested that it may have performance of 2.5 TFLOPs.

AMD has not been offering a strong APU platform yet maybe that is the reason this APU is making some noise right now. Traditionally AMD has put the APUs for the lower performance part of the market and specially the ultrathin and light weighted products like ultrabooks and integrated graphics. A strong APU means a very light weighted device with high performance that is all the companies and consumer dreams. We have to wait and see when exactly AMD is going to officially announce this new APU and how the final product will look.
