Newest PlayStation 5 (PS5) leaks: 7nm AMD Ryzen CPU & Navi GPU & 14 teraflops  performance

Alleged details of the PlayStation 5 console have been leaked online. The claimed specifications include 8K video, 2 TB storage utilizing NAND, 24 GB GDDR6 RAM, VR, ray tracing, backwards compatibility and more. There’s also mention of the widely believed custom AMD Ryzen CPU and the Navi GPU – that apparently offers 14 teraflops of compute performance.

Apparently, just US$499. This is only US$100 more than the PS4’s introductory price – and look at all the features that the PlayStation 5 could boast of! Strangely enough, there was a recent rumor about a custom gaming-related AMD engineering sample with a codename that suggested almost 14 teraflops of compute performance. But it’s best to take this text file post with at least a cup of salt to pinch from.

Here are some of the leaed highlights:

Release in either March or November 2020
Backwards compatible
Can play physical games or downloaded titles
7nm custom CPU based on AMD’s Ryzen processors: eight cores and 16 threads
7nm custom GPU based on AMD’s Navi technology: 14 teraflops of power

Is the PS 5 Going to Feature AMD Ryzen 3000U?

Thanks to a recent leak, we know that someone at PlayStation is working with Ryzen technology

“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.

The evidence – unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix – shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the “znver1″ architecture, the codename for AMD’s first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer’s involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule’s Tearaway and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony’s Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.”

Yes, the PS 5 is most likely going to feature AMD Ryzen but, will it feature Ryzen 3000U? It’s not easy to answer this question. The PS 5 is most likely not going to feature the PC versions of the CPU. AMD might make a CPU series based off of  Ryzen 3000U but, for consoles.
