Nvidia Going For Ampere Gaming Graphic while next-gen Volta GPUs Still On The Map

Nvidia Original road map states that after pascal Nvidi will be moving to Volta as they did and released the Tesla V100 graphics with volta architecture but at recently it has been rumored that “information on the upcoming GPU generation, which should appear under the name ‘Ampere’, should be at the GPU Technology Conference 2018.” The suggested title makes kind of sense with Nvidia historically naming their GPU generations after prominent scientists, and following pascal,  Alessandro Volta with Andre-Marie Ampere works given their electrical heritage. there are rumors that say that the Ampere generation will appear in 2018, pushing volta out or making it stay in datacenter and AI market like the v100 tesla version of volta. At the same time that it may seem not true and seem like a rush it also is possibele if you consider that AMD has also is probably going to make some changes to their roadmap. It is more likely the Ampere GPUs will purely be announced next year 2018 as part of a revised roadmap that NVIDIA will share at either the GPU Technology Conference in March or CES in January.

Nvidia has got to the end of the last roadmap announced for GPU generations when released Volta, maybe these rumors are the beginning of designing a new roadmap covering the next five years of NVIDA, historically it takes three years to build a new generation of chips, It makes sense if they are trying to extend the road map but jumping over to Ampere from the Volta that Nvidia recently called it the most power full GUP architecture is a little outside the box here.  There is the slight possibility Nvidia have decided their Volta GPU design is too heavily weighted towards AI as all ads and promotions and videos they have released recently about volta is focused on AI, they may want to make a decent consumer graphics card, but that seems incredibly unlikely. If the Nvidia Ampere name is for reals then it’s more likely this is the next next-gen GPU of our green team dreams.
