PlayStation 4 is entering its 5th year in the market but it hasn’t slowed down at all. It seems like the Nintendo Switch launch hasn’t affected PS 4 sales. Today Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 has surpassed a very big milestone that only a few other consoles have ever reached. The PlayStation VR has surpassed 2 million units sold and the PlayStation 4 has sold 70+ million copies.

Sony announced that as of December 3rd the PS 4 has sold through more than 70.6 million units worldwide. That places the PS 4 just above the PS 3 sells and below the PSP sells. That places Sony’s console the 9th most sold console of all time. Below the 73.9 million units of PSP sold and above the PS 3’s 70.2 million units sold. The PS 4 train isn’t slowing down, and these numbers will probably go a lot higher by the time that Sony discontinues the PlayStation 4. More than 617.8 million copies of digital and retail PS 4 games have been sold worldwide, and 12.2 million PS VR games have been sold worldwide. That’s an impressive number considering that the PS VR only has 150 games. Because of the PS VR’s price and PS 4 sells the PS VR has sold more than 2 million units worldwide as of December 3, 2017. In terms of sale numbers, the PS VR is the best selling VR headset yet. The PS 4 will probably not reach the PS 2 sells numbers, but 70.6 million copies are extremely impressive. The Wii U only sold 13.56 million units throughout its entire lifetime. We don’t know how much the Xbox One has sold. The Xbox One definitely hasn’t sold as much as the PS 4 but the Nintendo Switch might be able to reach PS 4’s 70.6 million units sold. The HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift will probably not reach PS VR’s numbers because right now gamers like the PS VR more than the Oculus and HTC Vive.
