Rare will support Sea of Thieves as ‘long as people play it’ no loot boxes
Sea of Thieves could be supported for a long time
Sea of Thieves is a popular pirate game. Sea of Thieves is the only pirate games recently released and it has a big fan base. Rare has released a lot of info about Sea of Thieves such as the PC requirements and how the map size works and now they have revealed how long they plan to support the game.
In an interview with metro.co.uk Rare’s Executive Producer Joe Neate was asked, “There’s no loot boxes?” and Rare said, “Correct.” Rare said that they don’t want to add loot boxes to the game because they want everyone to be able to experience the items that are added to the game. This could mean that they aren’t even going to add a season pass to Sea of Thieves. Rare is also going to add pets to Sea of Thieves but when asked how players can earn items such as pets they said, “A bit. There will be options to earn some of this stuff in some ways. But we’re not quite ready to hit the exact details of how that will happen.” The pets will be cosmetic items and they wouldn’t provide any advantage.
When asked how long Sea of Thieves is going to be supported Rare said, As long as people are playing this game we wanna be supporting it and growing it. And as long as it’s making sense, with all of those different lenses on what makes us a successful business. As long as it’s possible, basically. That’s why I’m genuinely excited about the future of where this can go. Right now we have a detailed roadmap to the end of this calendar year. ‘Cause it becomes unwieldy to really think beyond that. Because things will change and adjust. But we have a high-level one and we have real clarity of the detail of that first major update.” This could be a good thing and a bad thing. If people abandon the game very early Rare might abandon the game and work on another project which wouldn’t be good for players that paid $59.99 and want to play the game after everyone leaves. Sea of Thieves is an online game so if Rare abandons it they might close the game’s servers. The good thing is the fact that Rare would make new content for the game for years if players play the game and they wouldn’t just move onto another game.
