Rumor: Microsoft might buy EA, Valve, or PUBG Corp

This is just a rumor

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was one of the most popular games of 2017. Because of its massive success, Bluehole was able to make another company that solely focuses on PUBG so Bluehole can focus on their games while Bluehole makes new games. Valve might not have released a new game in a long time but they own Steam a massive online video game store for PC similar to Xbox One‘s Microsoft store and PS 4’s PlayStation store or Nintendo’s eShop. Microsoft tried to make a game store on the PC but it didn’t become as successful as Microsoft planned becuase of other PC online retailers mostly Steam. Most PC gamers buy games from Steam but if Microsoft owned Steam they could close it down and make the Windows store become Steam. EA doesn’t need introduction most gamers know what they are. 2017 was a bad year for EA becuase of microtransactions. Both Need for Speed Payback and Star Wars Battlefront 2 faced backlash from fans becuase the games had a pay to win system so EA received a lot of hate. Microsoft’s Xbox One has been having trouble with exclusives because compared to the competition the Xbox One doesn’t have a lot of exclusives.

A “reliable source close to Microsoft” told Polygon that EA was one of the most recent companies name thrown around in Microsoft for them to acquire EA. Two other companies names were thrown around too. Those two other companies are Valve and PUBG Corp. Remember this doesn’t mean that Microsoft is actually discussing to purchase these companies it was just an idea thrown around. Microsoft is most likely to buy PUBG Corp since they are not a very big company but EA and Valve are huge and cost a lot of money especially EA. Many believe that Microsoft might buy these companies to add their games to Xbox game Pass. Just like how Disney bought Fox so they can compete with Netflix when they launch their streaming service. If Xbox Game Pass gets EA gamers, many gamers will buy it especially since it costs $9.99.
