The Nintendo Switch was the most successful Nintendo console since the Wii. The Wii U was a massive failure, in fact, it did so bad that the Nintendo Switch was able to outsell it in a matter of weeks. The Switch outsold Nintendo’s expectations by so much that for the first few months of the consoles lifetime, it was really hard to find one for $300. Rumors suggest that Nintendo is going to release a hardware refresh of the Switch sometime in the future.

Rumors Suggest Nintendo Switch 2.0 is Happening

In 2018 it was reported that Nintendo will be looking into more network related features and peripherals for the Switch. Nintendo didn’t release a hardware refresh of the Switch in 2018 because they focused more on production issues. A person that was familiar with “Nintendo’s development plan” said that a hardware refresh of the Switch will fit perfectly into Nintendo’s plan. Nintendo said that they want to extend the Switch’s life cycle from the traditional 5-6 years.

If Nintendo releases a hardware refresh of the Switch it will probably be something similair to the New Nintendo 3DS. Perhaps a Nintendo Switch with a bigger screen and better battery life. Switch 2.0 will likely feature the same or similar specs as Nintendo wouldn’t want to exclude gamers that bought the original Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo has already done something similair to this with the Wii Mini. The Wii Mini was really similair to the Wii but it didn’t have wifi and it cost less. A bigger Switch is more likely as Nintendo wouldn’t want to reduce the price too much. If the price is too low no one will buy the 3DS and if it’s too close the Switch it wouldn’t be worth it.
