Rust Worth it in 2022? Best Multiplayer/Survival Games | Rust Review

Is Rust worth a Buy Right Now?

If you like survival-multiplayer games Rust is definitely a game that you should take a look at. Rust is pretty unique, gets lots of support from developers, and pretty much offers potentially limitless enjoyment due to all of the different servers hosted by the community. Rust has been around for a really long time but if you are looking to get into it now, read this review.

What is Rust?

Rust is a open-world survival/shooter game where you start off naked and the “goal” is to collect loot, build a base, raid other players’ bases, and become the richest person on the server. When you spawn in, you are naked and just have a rock. With some looting and fighting, you can get more advanced weapons like assault rifles and materials like metal to strengthen your base and make it much easier to take down opponents.

Once you reach the point where you have a base and some weapons, you can start trying to make explosives which can be used for attacking and raiding other players’ bases to steal their loot. On that note, beware that once you go offline your base is still there so while you are gone other players can come and raid you. Because of this, it is important to strengthen your base as much as possible.

This is pretty much what Rust is. A game where you start off from nothing, build a base, and compete with others to basically see who can be the richest and most powerful on the server.

A really good part about Rust is that it can meet the needs of everyone. In the game you can choose which server to join, meaning that you can join official or modded servers hosted by the community. In a official server with no mods it may take a very long time to reach the point where you can use advanced weapons and have a nice base, however, there are modded servers that give upwards of 10x extra loot to players, making things take much less time. Thanks to these modded servers even if you only have a few hours in the weekends, you can still play the game like everyone else.

Steep Learning Curve

One of the main issues that may make it hard for new players to enjoy Rust is a very steep learning curve. A completely new player will get destroyed by anyone who has been playing for a bit as weapons have specific spray and unusual spray patterns. This is not like Call of Duty or CS:GO (for the most part) where you can just pull down on the mouse to reduce recoil. Every gun has a different recoil pattern, for example, the most popular weapon, the AK has a S shaped pattern, and if you have not learned it the more experienced players will easily beat you in any gunfight.

RUST AK Spray

When I first started I was being shot with AKs from 200 meters away and couldn’t shoot back as I had not yet memorized the spray patterns. This game definitely has a really steep learning curve so beware of that when buying it.

Is it Worth it?

Once I got past the learning curve, this game was absolutely worth it. It may be a bit glitchy sometimes but it looks pretty good, runs decently on my PC, and is super fun whether I am solo or with friends. What I like about is is that it fits what everyone wants. People that can spend 5 houirs a day can go play on vanilla servers and go slower while those with less time can play on modded servers and only play a few hours in the weekend.

Rust also offers lots of replayability as the developers add tons of new content every few months and there are countless things you can do differently in every wipe. You can try going solo in a vanilla server, join a large clan and build a compound, make a water base, make a base in the cave, and more. After passing the learning curve, Rust has been an absolute blast. For me, Rust has easily been worth $39.99.

Rust is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Mac, and Linux.
