AMD at Global Foundries Technology Conference

AMD today at Global Foundries Technology Conference announced that it will be improving its first Ryzen CPUs and Vega GPUs to 12nm LP technology next year. The announcement came from the company’s Chief Technology agent Mark Papermaster. And when it is going to be produced? well it was mentioned that 12nm LP volume production will begin in the first quarter of 2018. Second generation Ryzen and Vega products are expected to be available on the market soon thereafter, sometime around April 2018.

These 12 nm designed CPU and GPUs replace AMD’s original 14nm plans for both of 2018 product lines, a move which helps AMD keep up with Nvidia. NVIDIA has its own 12nm line-up of GeForce graphics cards to launch in 2018. In theory, there will be a bit of performance gains along with lower power consumption across the board less heating up and less pressure on cooling systems but not necessarily more processing power.

2018 seems to be the 12nm year and as you see in AMD master plans 7 nm is on the way as the next step after 12 nm. Nvidia has not been much out there talking about what happens next but AMD now is having a very succesful line “RYZEN” and is making the best out of it. AMD released RYZEN and had a strong comeback to the market by the whole platform Expanded it to Vega and graphics and now is jumpin to the next step The 12 & 7  NM Ryzen Platforms.
