Smurfing in League of Legends
If you are an avid league of legends player then you might have heard about smurfing. The players who do it are known as the smurfs. Don’t have any idea what it is? Let us clear it out for you. A smurf account is a low-level secondary account that belongs to a highly skilled professional player that already has a high-level primary account.
History of Smurfing
Smurfing was introduced back in 1996 in Warcraft II when two professional players got fed up with no one agreeing to play with them. They were so highly ranked that people would just see their username and make a run. To be able to play with others and not scare them away with their accomplishments they decided to make new accounts from scratch while their main accounts remained intact.
These league of legends smurfs would at first make you believe that they are not that professional only to defeat you later. Even if they have a basic skillset, character, or player class they sure have the experience which becomes a possible reason for their victory all the time. Playing against one of these players you might not know what you are up against until it is too late. To be able to not fall a victim to smurfing here are a few things that you can do to spot a smurf and log yourself out from that specific gaming session;
They might be using a troll name
This is a classic psychology thing that is actively employed in smurfing and especially in the league of legends that professional players when making smurf account go for really silly or out of the ordinary usernames. And this thing checks out as many new original players take these smurfing opponents for silly names for granted and end up losing to them. So, you need to be on the lookout for anyone who is using the silliest name in your session and if you spot one then be on the lookout as he probably might be a smurf.
Pretty great CS
Another giveaway for someone who is a smurf is that he might have a pretty neat CS or “creep score”. This loosely translates into the number of minions a player has managed to kill. Most of the time new players will solely focus on defeating their opponent fast so they could end the game without tending to the minions but the smurfs usually go out for minions more. They don’t care for winning earlier as they are in it to enjoy the experience and they do so by putting more minions to sleep thus building their CS.
Be at the right place at the right time
Smurfs are experienced players which means that they do know what they are doing. They already know the map of the game thoroughly, have experience in every nook and crook of the game, and can help in delegating other team members. If you spot someone leading the team with all the right decisions such as which lanes to push or which towers to attack first then know that you have a smurf in your midst. But these kinds of smurfs are usually better to play with because they might carry you and the whole team all the way to the finish line.
