If you follow the news, you have probably heard a lot of things about a hardware refresh for one of Nintendo’s most successful consoles, the Switch. Many rumors were claiming that the Switch XL and/or the Switch Mini is going to be announced at E3 but, as we know that didn’t happen. If you’re excited about the Switch hardware refreshes don’t give up hope, they may still happen.

Thanks to the Nintendo Directs, Nintendo has recently been reading their biggest announcement at the directs and giving us more information at events like E3. For example, at this E3 we didn’t really get announcements for new games instead, we mostly got more information about them. There is a big chance that Nintendo announces the Switch hardware refreshes at a direct during this summer.

The Nintendo Switch is a very successful console as it has already sold millions of units. The Nintendo Switch was able to outsell the Wii U after a few months and, since then the Switch has been extremely popular amongst all kinds of gamers thanks to its amazing first-parties and third-party development. Nintendo has released hardware refreshes for their most popular consoles many times. Look back to the Wii which got the Wii mini, the Nintendo DS which got the DSI, and the Nintendo 3DS which got the New Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo’s failing consoles never get hardware refreshes but, the popular ones do which is why the Switch will probably get a hardware refresh.

What Will the Hardware Refreshes Change?

Right now as far as we know, we’re either going to get a bigger Nintendo Switch or the Switch XL or a smaller and cheaper Switch mini. The Switch XL will probably be like the New Nintendo 3DS with new and better joy-cons, a bigger screen, and better hardware. The Switch Mini will most likely be like the Nintendo 2DS. It’ll probably cost a bit more than $200 and come with a smaller screen and maybe cheaper joy-cons as well as 16GB of memory instead of the standard 32GB.
