DOOM 1.1.1 Switch updated tested-improves performance?
The new DOOM Switch update increases FPS
The Nintendo Switch was one of the most successful consoles of 2017 some even say it was the most popular console of 2017. The Nintendo Switch did get many popular first party games such as Zelda Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey but a large part of Switch’s success happened because of third-party developers. The Nintendo Switch has hundreds of indie games but it does have some game made by triple-A developers such as Skyrim, DOOM, L.A Noire, and WWE 2K18. Right now we don’t know the sale numbers for DOOM Nintendo Switch but we do know that Bethesda’s DOOM doesn’t run very well on the Nintendo Switch. DOOM has many FPS issues in the Nintendo Switch in areas with large amounts of enemies but Bethesda announced a new update for DOOM Switch that is supposed to fix these performance issues.
If you wanted the update to fix all of DOOM’s performance issues on the Nintendo Switch and make it run at 30 FPS at all times at 720p you are going to be disappointed. The new update does make performance better but it’s not a drastic change from the original version. DigitalFoundry found out that with the new update you can expect a 2 to 3 FPS performance increase over the original version in places with a lot of enemies. DigitalFoundry says that the image quality is basically the same but the FPS has been increased. With the new update in less demanding times, DOOM always stays at 30 FPS. In a demanding area they got an average of 27.56 FPS with the new patch but in the original version, they got an average of 25.6 FPS. In the new update, DOOM feels a lot better on the Nintendo Switch and the FPS is very consistent when compared to the original version. At nightmare difficulty, the FPS could fall down to 22-25 FPS at very demanding areas but in normal difficulty, it’s a lot closer to 30 FPS.
