Report says Nintendo Switch 2.0 isn’t happening in 2018

We are probably not going to see a Nintendo Switch 2.0 in 2018

Both Microsoft and Sony refresh their consoles every year. Nintendo hasn’t done a console revision like the Xbox One X and PS 4 Pro but apparently, it’s actually going to happen with the Nintendo Switch but we aren’t going to see a Nintendo Switch hardware refresh in 2018. A report from the Wall Street Journal claims that Nintendo isn’t going to release a hardware refresh for the Nintendo Switch at least not in 2018 maybe in 2018.

According to the report, Nintendo is looking into releasing more peripherals for the Nintendo Switch instead of releasing a new version of the Nintendo Switch itself. According to the WSJ Nintendo is going to release new peripherals that connect to the USB-C port and more “network-related features” for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has already started doing that with the Nintendo Labo. WSJ says that the Nintendo Switch 2.0 isn’t going to come out this year because Nintendo is going to focus on better manufacturing and shipping of the current Nintendo Switch model. In an investor briefing in February Nintendo CEO Mr. Kimishima said that he wants to extend the Nintendo Switch product cycle from the 5 to 6 years lifespan that most consoles have.  A person that is familiar with the development plan told WSJ that a new version of the Nintendo Switch would fit perfectly into Nintendo’s plan.

Normally Nintendo doesn’t release big console revisions for their consoles but they do for their handhelds. Nintendo doesn’t release a new console revision for their home consoles in the first two years but they do that with their portable consoles. It will be interesting to see what Nintendo is going to do with a new Nintendo Switch version perhaps a bigger screen or maybe better specs. It will also be interesting to see the new peripherals that Nintendo wants to release for the Nintendo Switch.
