Is Nintendo Switch 2.0 even Going to Happen? When is it Coming Out?

The Nintendo Switch has been a very massive success for Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch did a lot better then Nintendo expected when they released their console. The Nintendo Switch quickly became loved by everyone, and it was sold out everywhere. For a few months after the console came out, you either had to get lucky and buy a Nintendo Switch for $300 or buy it on eBay for $500.  Judging by Nintendo Switch’s success, gamers have been wondering if Nintendo is going to release Nintendo Switch 2.0. So gamers can buy the Switch at MSRP, Nintendo raised Switch production to 2 million units a month.

Is the Nintendo Switch 2.0 Happening?

The Nintendo Switch 2.0 is not going to happen anytime soon according to Nintendo. The Wall Street Journal wrote, “At an investor briefing in February, Mr. Kimishima, the Nintendo CEO, said he wanted to make the Switch’s product cycle longer than the five-to-six-year span that’s become customary in the video game console industry. One person familiar with development plans said waiting longer to introduce variations in the hardware would serve that purpose.” 

Nintendo Switch 2.0 is probably coming out, but not in 2018. Perhaps at the end of 2019. Nintendo said that they want to make the Nintendo Switch’s life cycle longer then the traditional five to six years. If they’re going to do that, they will have to release a new hardware variation to keep gamers interested, and the Nintendo Switch is already weak regarding specs so, in 5 years, it probably wouldn’t be able to run any games.

When is it Coming Out? 

So yes it will happen, but it’s not clear when. It will likely come out in around five years. Nintendo wants the Switch life-cycle to increase so if they’re going to do that and keep gamers happy, they will have to put a long break between each console variant. If Nintendo releases a new version every two years, it won’t sit well with gamers.
