The PS 5 is Rumored to Feature AMD Ryzen

Sony’s PlayStation 4 was released 5 years ago and it took the console gaming world by storm. The PS 4 destroyed the competition thanks to Microsoft sabotaging themselves. Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal was very disappointing as it was priced at $500 and it came with a useless gimmick while the PS 4 was priced at $400. The next-generation of gaming consoles is rumored to be a yare or two away and we have gotten a lot of leaks about the PS 5. According to the latest leaks and rumors, the PS 5 is going to feature AMD Ryzen CPU and 7nm AMD Navi GPU.
PS 5 Rumored to Feature AMD Ryzen and Navi
Thanks to a leak started by Eurogamer, we know that a developer at Sony has been working with AMD Ryzen technology. The developer was working with the first-generation of Ryzen so it’s not that powerful but its good enough for a console. This is a credible rumor and it makes a lot of sense considering that Sony has been using AMD CPUs in all of their recent gaming consoles. If they want the PS 5 to be powerful, an AMD Ryzen CPU would be really useful. The PS 4 Pro was greatly held back by its weak CPU but the PS 5 could change that.
“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.
The evidence – unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix – shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the “znver1″ architecture, the codename for AMD’s first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer’s involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule’s Tearaway and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony’s Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.”
Thanks to other credible sources, we know that the PS 5 is going to feature 7nm AMD Navi GPU. Thanks to its 7nm architecture, it will be really good for a small and compact system. AMD Navi is going to run cooler and be more power efficient then GPUs available in the market right now so you might not hear the annoying fan noises from your PS 5 while you’re gaming at 2 am in the morning.
Will it be Able to Run Games at 4K 60FPS?
We really can’t answer this question. Although we know that the PS 5 is going to feature AMD Navi, it’s most likely not going to feature the desktop version of the card. AMD will probably make a special version of the card for Sony’s PS 5. They will probably do the same with AMD Ryzen to keep costs down.
