PS5 News| The PS 5 to Feature AMD Ryzen CPUs According to Latest Rumors 4K 60 FPS High-Ultra Possible?
According to Rumors the PS 5 is Going to Use AMD Ryzen
The Sony PlayStation 5 is highly anticipated by fans as it could finally make 4k gaming mainstream. The Sony PlayStation 5 is expected to get its CPU and GPU from AMD with the AMD Navi as its GPU and Ryzen used for its CPU. Ryzen is good news as this means the GPU wouldn’t be held back a lot because of the CPU.
Rumor: PS 5 to Use AMD Ryzen
According to a report by Eurogamer, Sony is working on AMD Ryzen.
Eurogamer wrote,
“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.
The evidence – unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix – shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the “znver1″ architecture, the codename for AMD’s first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer’s involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule’s Tearaway and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony’s Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.”
With the PS 5 coming out around 2020 which places it into Ryzen second-gen time frame, this makes sense as by that time Ryzen would be very cheap. Usually, consoles have a really old and outdated CPU with a relatively modern GPU which caused the PS 5 Pro and Xbox One X to get held back from their true potential. The PS 4 Pro’s GPU is very powerful thanks to optimization for a console but the CPU keeps it back.
Will it be Able to do 4K 60 FPS Ultra-High?
According to the latest rumors, AMD is making a new GPU 7nm Architecture for the Sony PlayStation 5. The PS 5 is rumored to use the AMD Navi GPU architecture. Vega 10 features 4,096 Stream Processors but thanks to the smaller 7nm size, Navi is going to be able to feature 1.6x more logic into the same amount of space. Although the specs are impressive for a console, 4K gaming 60 FPS High to Ultra isn’t going to be possible with the PS 5. Even with really good optimization, 4K 60 FPS ultra to high is going to need a lot of power, so the only games that can run at those settings are probably going to be low demanding first-parties.
