Will Nvidia Lose the GPU Market to AMD When Navi is Released?
AMD Navi Confirmed to Come Q3 2019

Right now Nvidia controls the majority of the GPU market thanks to RTX GPUs. The issue with AMD is that their most powerful consumer GPU performs on part with the Nvidia RTX 2070 so, AMD doesn’t have any GPUs in the high-end market. It seems like Nvidia may have some issues keeping the majority of the GPU market when AMD Navi is released which is going to be the world’s first 7nm GPU coming in Q3 2019. Nvidia is also rumored to release RTX refreshes to compete with Navi.
AMD Navi Rumored Specs and Performance
Unfortunatly, we don’t have a lot of official information about AMD Navi. All we know is that it’s coming in Q3 2019 and, AMD calls their next-gen 7nm hardware the “Strongest Product Portfolio in AMD History.” We also know that AMD Navi is definitely going to feature Ray Tracing. Now, let’s talk about the rumors.
The latest rumors claim that AMD is going to release the RX 3060 and RX 3070 in 2019 while the RX 3080 is going to be released in 2020. The RX 3060 and RX 3070 are rumored to cost consumers $129 and $200 while the high-end Navi RX 3080 is said to cost $250. The RX 3080 is supposedly going to be able to perform on par with the Nvidia RTX 2070. If this rumor is true, Nvidia really shouldn’t be worried. Of course, AMD may release more powerful Navi GPUs with different naming.
Nvidia RTX Refreshes
A new rumor by a somewhat credible Tech YouTube channel claims that Nvidia is going to release RTX 20 refreshes to compete with Nvidia’s next-gen 7nm Navi GPU. The RTX refreshes are said to feature GDDR6 memory and higher core clocks. This means that Nvidia is going to lower the prices of current RTX GPUs which means that AMD Navi may have a hard time capturing the GPU market.
Can AMD Capture the GPU market?
If Nvidia does release RTX refreshes, they’ll probably continue to control the GPU market. According to rumors and leaks, Navi doesn’t seem like it’s going to be very powerful. Although Navi may deliver better performance for lower prices then current Nvidia GPUs, the RTX refreshes are most likely happening and they’ll cause a price decrease in current RTX GPUs. If the RTX refreshes cause the higher-end RTX GPUs to go down by about $100, Navi may have a hard time competing with RTX.
