Super Mario Odyssey doesn’t require amiibo to unlock content
Nintendo knows people don’t like to pay extra to unlock game content
Super Mario Odyssey uses all Amiibos. Some Amiibos unlock an outfit for Mario, and others give in-game help. Don’t worry if you don’t have that many Ammibos Ammibo contents can be unlocked through the game.
Nintendo wrote, “All outfits can be unlocked in-game without amiibo.” Right now we don’t know how they will be unlocked without amiibo. Each amiibo is a surprise. The Link amiibo might unlock a Link outfit for Mario while the Metroid amiibo might give you help.
Nintendo is releasing three amiibo with Super Mario Odyssey Mario (wedding Outfit), Peach (wedding Outfit), and Bowser (wedding Outfit). The Mario amiibo will unlock Mario (wedding outfit) and temporary invisibility. The Peach (wedding Outfit) amiibo will unlock Peach wedding outfit and +1 heart. The Bowser (wedding Outfit) amiibo will unlock Bowser wedding outfit and location of regional coins.
While every company is adding microtransactions, Nintendo is removing them. That doesn’t mean they haven’t added any microtransactions or paid DLC to their games. Mario Kart 8 was one of the Nintendo games that had microtransactions. For$12 you got 6 Zelda and Animal Crossing characters, 8 Zelda and Animal Crossing vehicles, and 16 Zelda and Animal Crossing tracks. Some other Nintendo games such as Splatoon require amiibo to unlock outfits. The Mario amiibo unlocked the Armor Helmet Replica, Armor Jacket Replica, and Armor Boot Replica, which give the abilities of Tenacity, Ink Saver, and Special Charge Up.
Nintendo games never required microtransactions, and they don’t give the person the bought it a significant advantage over people that don’t buy microtransactions. Sometimes amiibo did make the game more fun. For example using certain amiibo in Mario Maker will allow players to eat a power-up that makes them look like the amiibo. A popular amiibo that did this was the Link amiibo.
