“Rival for the Nintendo Switch” I just had to LOL. This thing won’t be anywhere near a rival for Switch. PlayStation or Xbox either. For starters, the three of them (yes even Xbox) have exclusive world-class software developed for them regularly from some of the most talented people in the industry. Atari has none of those sorts in their stable, and can’t buy them out either.
Which leads to the other point: Atari doesn’t have the money to compete with the Big 3, not even close. So they can’t buy software or app/feature support like them, or sell competitive hardware at their price levels (just because this is using Ryzen doesn’t automatically mean it’ll be more powerful than Switch, and even if it is, Switch offers more in terms of functionality and practical day-to-day use than yet anohter console box that just sits under the telly).
If the Ataribox is lucky, it’ll lap of a handful of Linux nuts who want a system w/ an “open OS”, but that’s about it.
At this point i give it a 50/50 shot… mainly because if it is really easy to port games to, to where it takes 10mins to port over a whole game. Then it dont need exclusives… Look at all the games they said couldnt be ported to the switch but then it goes big n all of sudden maybe it can be ported… just saying will meets way when the cost is right n if it can be done really fast then even better.
