Apparently, This is a desperate move by NVIDIA, After new AMD Navi RX 3080 leaked; Nvidia files trademark of “3080”

Nvidia and AMD could soon be battling over the number 3080. Why? Maybe cause Nvidia is playing cheap when they cant catch up with AMD hyped 7nm Technologies that have been everywhere in the news.

New specifications for AMD’s Navi-based RX 3080 graphics card have apparently been leaked. It’s believed the RX 3080 will offer eight shader engines and 2,560 stream processors. It seems Nvidia is not too keen on AMD’s rumored naming scheme and has filed to trademark the numbers 3080, 4080, and 5080 with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Some new supposed specifications for AMD’s RX 3080 graphics card have been leaked, although the original tweet that contained the information has now been deleted.

The report states that Nvidia is preparing to do battle with AMD over ownership of the number “3080”. Obviously, for those not initiated, looking at one product labeled “RTX 2080” and another labeled “RX 3080” may lead to the assumption that the latter product is better than the former simply because of the numbering. It’s also likely that Nvidia might want to eventually create an RTX 30-series without being hampered by AMD’s crafty marketing.

Records with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) have been spotted that show Nvidia filing to trademark the numbers “3080”, “4080”, and “5080”. The applications were only made on May 1.
