EA buys Titanfall developer and new Titanfall game coming

EA is purchasing Respawn Entertainment, and they are making a new Titanfall game

Respawn Entertainment has made man games with EA, but they weren’t actually owned by EA until now. Respawn Entertainment created Titanfall 2 and the original Titanfall; Respawn Entertainment worked with EA to make these games. EA has announced they bought Respawn Entertainment along with Titanfall.

EA has published Respawn Entertainment’s games so far including Titnafall 2, and they will be the creator of the next Titanfall game that’s in the works. In a press release, EA said they are buying Respawn Entertainment. EA might have to pay up to $455 million if Respawn hits its target earnout. The deal will have $151 million in cash, $164 million in stock grants for Respawn, and a changeable earnout of $140 million. In a post Company CEO Vince Zampella said they didn’t have to join EA, but it made sense for them to join EA. HE says EA supports Respawn and doesn’t change their way of making games. He says joining EA will give them access to better tech and resources to make better games. According to him, EA will not change the “creative freedom” that they have right now. 

Unfortunately, Titanfall two didn’t sell very well, according to VGChartz Titanfall 2 sold 1.36 million units on the PS 4, 1.17 million units on the Xbox One, and 0.18 million units on the PC, so in total Titanfall 2 sold 2.71 million units. Titanfall didn’t fail because the game was bad it has an 89 in Metacritic and 8.4 user score, many say it failed because Titanfall two was released on October 28th, and BF 1 was released at October 21st. Most gamers bought Battlefield 1 instead of Titafall 2. At that time BF 1 has all the hype, and when the hype died down, no one talked about Titanfall two anymore. If Titanfall two were released a few months after or before Battlefield 1, it would’ve probably done a lot better.
