EA Interested in Experimenting with a Stand Alone, Free to Play Battle Royal Similar to Fortnite

We might See a Stand Alone Free to Play Battle Royal Game by EA in the Future

The battle royal genre is the most popular genre as of writing this article. The battle royal genre started off with Bluehole’s PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds and the legacy is continuing with Epic Game’s Fortnite. Fortnite has been doing really well-making Epic games worth billions of Dollars. Fortnite Battle Royal made $318 million in May alone and that’s through microtransactions only. With Fortnite Battle Royal doing so well it’s no surprise that other game developers are trying to get a piece of that pie. EA is trying to get a piece of that pie by implementing a battle royal mode into Battlefield V.

According to EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen EA might start experimenting with a free to play stand-alone battle royal game similair to Fortnite Battle Royal. “I would say we’re interested in possibly experimenting with a essentially free-to-play standalone game that might be in a shooter genre or another genre, but I don’t think that’s how we’re looking at the Battlefield stuff right now. But you’ll see more to come on that in the coming months and years.” Said Jorgensen in a recent investor call meeting. It is going to be very interesting to see how EA would treat a free to play stand-alone battle royal game. Knowing EA they would likely implement some kind of a pay to win system into the game. It will be interesting to see a realistic free to play battle royal game but instead of cartoony graphics like Fortnite Battle Royal featuring realistic graphics and Battlefield’s game-play and mechanics.

EA also commented on Battlefield V. EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson said, “And as we come into October, we’ll be talking more about this, but you should expect that we’ll be delivering a full featured game that features all of the traditional components of a Battlefield game in addition to new modalities of play including Battle Royale and delivered in a way that we believe we want to play which is not just what you get at launch but in the context of a live service over time. And we’re excited about what we’re able to do there.”
