Before PUBG blew up the battle royal genre was none existent. When PUBG blew up indie devs started making battle royal games for mobile and PC. After PUBG Fortnite’s battle royal mode came along and it even flew pas PUBG in a very short time. When a genre blows ups triple-A developers such as EA start developing games for that genre to get a piece of the pie and makes millions of dollars. Right now PUBG and Fortnite are pretty much the only battle royal games. No big triple-A developer has released a battle royal game at the time of writing this article. Although some games have gotten battle royal mini-games a real battle royal mode hasn’t been placed in a triple-A game. According to recent rumors, both Black OPS 4 and Battlefield V are going to feature a battle royal mode.
According to GameBeat‘s sources with knowledge about Dice a battle royal mode is being tested for Battlefield V. GameBeat’s source told them that a person that wants to remain anonymous Dice is testing a mode where 100 players drop on to a map and fight each other until one person stands. The battle royal mode isn’t going to be released as Dice hasn’t even approved the battle royal mode for release and even if it is approved Dice wouldn’t have enough time to make a good battle royal mode and release it with Battlefield V. Battleroyal mode will probably be added as a free update a few months after the game is released.
Dice will probably try to release the battle royal mode for Battlefield V. Right now, everyone is talking about battle royal games and there aren’t a lot of battle royal games in the market so Dice could make lots of money from the battle royal mode in Battlefield V.
