Loot boxes are one of the most controversial gaming topics of 2017. Most gamers hate them but developers want it in their games because they could make you pay real money to buy loot boxes and progress faster in the game. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is one of the most hated games right now because many gamers say it’s a pay to win. In Battlefront 2 you can buy gems and then you can use the gems to buy loot boxes. The loot boxes give you star cards, and star cards can upgrade your character. Gamers were complaining that people that buy loot boxes will have a big advantage over people that don’t buy them. EA did remove microtransactions from Battlefront 2, but they are going to come back in the future. Take-Two (developer of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2) has commented on the controversy that’s surrounding loot boxes right now.

Speaking at the Credit Suisse event Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said they don’t believe that loot boxes are gambling and they believe the same thing as the ESA statement. The ESA statement (Entertainment Software Association) told Polygon that loot boxes are not gambling. Gamers don’t have to buy loot boxes, and it’s another way for gamers to get the virtual item and in some video games loot boxes give players advantages, and in other games, they don’t, but in both kinds, gamers aren’t forced to buy loot boxes they get to choose. Take-Two has placed microtransactions in GTA Online and they give players GTA $. with GTA $ gamers can buy anything they want in the game but gamers aren’t mad about that because GTA V isn’t an FPS shooter and Rockstar continues to release new and free content for GTA V even though it’s 4+ years old. Take-Two has confirmed that all of their future games will have some form of microtransactions.
