Is AMD Doing the Right Thing By Focusing 7nm Navi RX 5000 Series GPUs on The Mid-End and Low-End Gaming GPU Market?

Should AMD Try to Compete With NVIDIA RTX SUPER in the High-End Market?

AMD Navi

Right now NVIDIA controls the majority of the gaming market as AMD just released GPUs that can actually compete with NVIDIA RTX. Things didn’t seem good for AMD until they announced that the RX 5700 series GPUs are going to get price cuts which allowed AMD’s market share to grow in the mid-end GPU gaming market aka the $200-400 which is the majority of the gaming market. Most people end up getting a GPU around that price point (at least in countries such as the USA) which manes that whoever controls the mid-end market will make the most money but, is AMD making the wrong choice by totally ignoring the high-end gaming market?

AMD Navi vs NVIDIA RTX SUPER

Before AMD applied price cuts to the RX 5700XT, things didn’t look good as the card had a really hard time competing with the RTX 2070 SUPER but now that the GPU’s price has been slashed, the RX 5700XT is the direct competitor of the RTX 2060 SUPER and it absolutely obliterates the 2060 SUPER in gaming benchmarks! As you can see below, the RTX 2060 SUPER is destroyed by the RX 5700 XT in every single game benchmarked below which is certainly bad news for AMD has both GPUs cost the same amount. Of course, the RX 5700XT lacks Ray Tracing but, everyone is willing to give up Ray Tracing for a big performance boost.

AMD Going to Capture Mid-End and Low-End Gaming Market

The RX 5700XT is going to cost $399 and the RX 5700 is going to cost $349. This means that the RX 5700XT is going to be the direct competitor of the $399 RTX 2060 SUPER but, the RTX 2060 SUPER doesn’t perform anywhere near the same as the RX 5700XT. It’s not clear what the RX 5700 as for only $50 more you’ll get a much better GPU. This means that the lower-end AMD cards are going to be pushed down a tier and AMD already has the control on the low-end gaming market and now that the GPUs are going to get cheaper, AMD will have a better grasp on the low-end market.

Should AMD Focus on the High-End Market As Well?

According to the latest rumors, AMD’s not going to release a more powerful Navi GPU instead, AMD is going to release lower-end Navi cards in the future. This means that NVIDIA wouldn’t have any competition in the high-end market which is probably why they’re not going to release an RTX 2080 Ti SUPER anytime soon. Well, is AMD doing the right thing? I believe they are because the mid-end and low-end gaming markets are way more important than the high-end market as most people aren’t looking to spend $500+ Dollars on a GPU for their system. AMD should put all of their resources towards competing with NVIDIA in the mid-end and lower-end market and then later move on to the high-end gaming GPU market.
