Is AMD Vega a Viable Gaming Option for Gaming in 2018 Nvidia VS AMD
Nvidia VS Nvidia Geforce GTX
AMD and Nvidia have been fairly close in the GPU scene. Most of the time, whenever Nvidia releases a new GPU AMD, will also release a GPU that competes very closely with Nvidia. Right now, Nvidia has the most powerful GPUs with Nvidia RTX but AMD is still a competitor in terms of mid-end GPUs. AMD Vega was expected by many gamers to be very powerful and be the GPU that finally gives AMD the one up over Nvidia, but it didn’t. It pretty much just performed like Nvidia’s GTX 10 series GPUs and it was around the same price.
GTX 1080 vs Vega 64
According to benchmarks done by Forbes, the Nvidia GTX 1080 performs 3 to 10 FPS better than the AMD Vega 64. So it definitely doesn’t make any sense for a gamer to buy the Vega 64 nowadays as it costs less then Vega 64 but performs better. Right now, the cheapest Vega 64 GPU you can buy on Amazon will cost you $547.98 while the cheapest GTX 1080 will cost you $459.99 on Amazon. It doesn’t make sense to buy AMD.
GTX 1060 6 GB VS RX 580
Now let’s talk about cheaper GPUs. The GTX 1080 is expensive and many gamers can’t afford it but the GTX 1060 6GB is a better option if you can’t afford to shell out $500 right now for the GPU alone. According to benchmarks done by Eurogamer, the RX 580 is a better option for gamers over the GTX 1060 6GB. According to the benchmarks that you can see below, the GTX 1060 underperforms when compared to RX 560. All the games were running at 1080p.

Right now the cheapest GTX 1060 6GB will cost you $279.99 while the cheapest RX 580 will cost you $289.
It seems like Nvidia is definitely the option for high-end GPUs but if you don’t want to spend too much money you should go with AMD over Nvidia.
