Threadripper 2990WX LN2 demo is faster than Intel’s demo. It is now the world-record holder.

The Threadripper 2990WX is the flagship part of AMD’s Threadripper 2 platform and based on the 12nm node from TSMC and based on the Zen+ architecture. Fastest Intel offering on the market right now is the Intel Core i9-7980XE 18-core, and the fastest prototype is the 28-core which was demoed at Computex.

It’s actually priced cheaper than the original MSRP of the Intel Core i9-7980XE ($1999). It will almost certainly be incredibly cheaper than the 28-core against which it is competing (and winning).

AMD Official launch of second generation Threadripper 2000 CPUs
After a long time of leaks and rumors now the monster CPUs of the 2nd gen of threadripper from the bigger family of Ryzen CPUs is introduced and ready for pre-order from some stores. AMD Ryzen Threadripper SKUs, there are four SKUs, ranging from 12 to 32 cores. The WX-series require at least 250W of power, whereas the X-series are 180W TDP, same as 1st generation. Only 32-core Threadripper 2990WX will be available at launch, which happens to be exactly next week.
videocardz reports that, AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2000 Review Kits, the review kit comes in a massive box containing Threadripper processor, custom 2990WX stand, memory kits and so on. Benchmark Leak : “The most powerful desktop processor in the world.” | AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX
In the official transcript that is posted at AMD’s France webpage, they call the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX as “the most powerful desktop processor in the world.” AMD has mistakenly listed the Cinebench benchmarks numbers of their monster flagship CPU, the 32 core Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2000s are set to be introduced in AUG 13th. The official performance numbers are yet to be revealed. wccftech reports
Tests performed by AMD Performance laboratories on 26/06/2018 on the following system. The configurations may vary by PC manufacturer, and give different results. The results may vary depending on the driver versions used. Test setup: TR4 motherboard with AMD “Whitehaven” socket X399 + AMD Ryzen ™ Threadripper ™ 2990WX + Gigabyte X299 AORUS Gaming 9 + Intel Core i9-7980XE.
Both systems feature a GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card (driver 24.21.13.9793), 4 x 8 GB DDR4-3200, Windows 10 x64 Pro (RS3), Samsung 850 Pro SSD. “Power” is defined as computing power as represented by the Cinebench R15 processor benchmark.
The Intel Core i9-7980XE earned 3,335.2 points on average in the benchmark, while the AMD Ryzen ™ Threadripper ™ 2990WX achieved 5,099.3 on average, or 5,099.3 / 3,335.2 = 153%) 53% faster than the Intel Core i9-7980XE. RP2-1.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper Preorders
Only Threadripper 2990WX can be preordered today. The CPU will ship on August 13th.
